I met John through Nancy who for some time went to Tai Chi classes with me and our mutual friend, Annie. One day I decided to see what Nancy's garden looked like and found John working on the back deck of their home on Winter Street. I didn't know John well, but was delighted that he was so hospitable and engaging as we talked about the progress of the deck and the flowering of the garden. Pat Bashford
