Memories, Thoughts and Pictures

While John is no longer with us he lives on in all of our memories. Please comment on this post to share your special memories of John with all who read this blog.

John Soward's Memorial


John Soward was a great friend and neighbor for only a few short years. His vitality and spirit enlivened our neighborhood while he was here. John passed away on Saturday May 15, 2010 after a six month battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.


Please join us in preserving his memory while adding to the experience of all who use the Clipper City Rail Trail in Newburyport. All contributions go to purchasing a piece of art to be based on one of John’s own paintings. The piece will be mounted on the granite retaining wall that is behind the house that he lived in on Winter Street just off Washington Street as you are headed toward the train station.

A selection of John’s paintings will on display at the Firehouse gallery in downtown Newburyport from June 9th to August 1st of this year so stop by to see his paintings in person when the gallery is open. On June 12th from 4pm until 8pm there will be a reception in conjunction with the exhibit with family and friends that is open to the public.
